Hello,
Welcome to the WikiBass Newsletter! Thank you for joining us; your support means a great deal to us.
The JOURNAL: a space dedicated to in-depth analysis and broader reflections on the world of the double bass. Every month, we will publish new articles in which you can actively participate. In fact, you have the opportunity to propose a topic or write your own contribution, which we will be happy to send out and share through this newsletter.
The article focuses on Artemio Dall’Aglio’s mixed tuning proposal, analyzing his pedagogical method (available as an excerpt) as an Italian response to international orchestral innovations. It examines the technical evolution of the double bass in early 20th-century Europe by comparing different solutions for extending the lower register. The study illustrates the technical debate that preceded the definitive adoption of the fourth and fifth strings.
Valentina is a musician gifted with a profound sense of fusion between genres and disciplines; in her case, speaking of ‘genres’ feels almost misplaced. Musical boundaries expand, sounds intertwine with voices and effects, and musical performance engages in a dialogue with theatrical action, where the concert gown is transformed into a stage costume.
All these elements exist in a state of constant circularity, capturing the audience to the point where they lose the perception of being merely at a concert or a play. Instead, one finds themselves immersed in the heart of a continuous and eccentric creativity that constantly evolves and renews itself: the creativity of Valentina.
We are pleased to introduce our “Our Friends” section, a space dedicated to platforms that share our commitment to the growth and development of the double bass world. This time, we are featuring The International Community of Double Bassists (ICB), a non-profit global network designed to connect and empower bassists across all cultures, generations, and artistic disciplines.
